Assemblies are at 10:30 a.m. in the Lower Assembly HallFUS Summer Program for Children
Childcare for infants - preschoolers is available. Chalice Camp is open to all children who come to the service and meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Chalice Room. For kids entering 6 - 8 grades, Gabe Aderhold is offering an FUS film club.
6/8/08 ASSEMBLY: "Is Harry Potter a Humanist"

In the series of seven books about the young wizard Harry Potter and his adventures, I believe there is a lot of useful theology for Humanists, including the central question of what it means to be an orphan. This service will explore various aspects of being human and a Humanist today as seen through the lenses of author JK Rowling’s magicspectacles.
6/15/08 ASSEMBLY: "Unitarian Universalists in Community: The General Assembly"
Coordinator: Polly Peterson, Who’s Been There
The UUA General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists across the United States. We will hear from people who have attended in the past and send off those who are attending this month in Ft Lauderdale. And, we will look forward to 2010 when the Twin Cities will host thousands of UUs for that year’s GA. Join us to see how FUS fits into the greater community of Unitarian Universalists.
6/22/08 ASSEMBLY: "Seeing the Connection"

During this service, we will hear several members of FUS talk about how their art, often produced in isolation, connects them to a larger community.
6/29/08 ASSEMBLY: "The Care and Nourishment of Civil Society"
Speaker: Heather Martens, President, Citizens for a Safer Minnesota
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court will hand down a decision that could change the basis of laws governing guns in this country. How to deal with the threat, or use, of deadly force is a challenge for any civil society. What will the Supreme Court decision mean? How might it change the way in which we care for our civil society and live out the values of democracy, peace, liberty and justice?
7/6/08 ASSEMBLY: "Native Americans in Minnesota"

Guests from the Minneapolis Native American Center will visit the society in this, the sesquicentennial year in Minnesota.
7/13/08 ASSEMBLY: "Our Northside Community"
Coordinators: Jo Haberman and Carol Koepp
This is the year for celebrating history in Minnesota — a chance to look at the triumphs and tragedies of the state we call home. This Sunday we will take a close look at the history of North Minneapolis from the early 20th century into the 21st century. The FUS Social Action Committee works on racial and economic justice by focusing human and financial resources on the Northside. Come learn more about it.
7/20/08 ASSEMBLY: "Community Service Sunday"
Coordinators: Jim Tincher and Andrew Schmidt
This has become a tradition during the summer at FUS. Come dressed for action. There will be a variety of activities available; some in the building and some in the community. All of them will be services to the greater community.
Be watching for sign-up sheets on Sundays, where you can indicate your activity preference.
7/27/08 ASSEMBLY: "Off to Camp!"

Gay bible camp that is! Back by popular demand, GLBTQ youth who have participated in The Naming Project’s week long summer camps will be our guests for this assembly. They will share their stories and answer some of our questions about the teenage struggle to reconcile sexuality and spirituality and then it’s off to camp!

For the upcoming fall elections each person’s vote is important. We’ll look at how the process works and what needs to be changed to make it better. We’ll hear from political activists and learn how to influence our leaders. Together we can change the system!

In this final summer assembly we will reflect on beginnings and endings as the cycle of life flows on and FUS prepares to begin a new program year. As I say my goodbyes as your intern minister and summer assemblies ministerial coordinator, I will share some highlights of our ministry together over the last year and then we will welcome the new intern.
